The main festival season in Nathdwara is concentrated in autumn, beginning with Janmashtami in August and ending with Gopasthami and Annakut (this year in November). In Nathdwara and across the Pushtimarg havelis this year, the festival of Dussehra fell on October 5, marking the end of Navratri and beginning the countdown to Diwali. This festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil as described in the Ramayana with Rama’s fatal defeat of Ravana, the ten-headed demon king of Lanka. At the Shrinthaji temple, festivities begin with an evening darshan.
